As quilt shop owners of Country Bear Creations, teachers and designers of appliqué patterns, our greatest success and personal satisfaction has been our classes.

Appliqué has been one of the most popular classes.  We teach the spray starch method of appliqué.  With this method, we can take a beginner and make them look like professionals with their first appliqué.

In traveling to quilt shows around the country, we found that many quilters were afraid of or intimidated by appliqué.  Now our mission is not only to design beautiful quilts, but to show quilters how easy and fun appliqué can be.

We have been featured on three PBS quilting shows:  Lap Quilting Coast to Coast with Georgia Bonesteel, Pennsylvania Quilts with our local PBS affiliate, and Quilting for the Heartland with Charlene Jorgenson.

Even though we prefer our method, In our intermediate class, we allow the student to use whatever method they are comfortable with.

Pansy Wall Hanging - A great piece for beginners, this class teaches the basics of layered appliqué circles stem and points.  Three cute pansies are set on a 19" x 19" block with nice size pieces.  When borders are added, it becomes a 24" x 24" wall hanging.

3 Block Sampler - A single pansy, a rosebud and a dogwood each set on an 8" square.  The blocks are pieced together in a rectangular size to be used as a wall hanging or table runner or can be used separately.  Pieces are slightly smaller than in our regular wall hanging patterns.  This class teaches all the basics:  layered appliqué, points, stems, and circles.

Appliqué Organizer - A quilted booklet with pockets to hold tools and notions.  The pellon pages hold appliqué pieces until they are ready to be sewn.  The front of the book has an appliquéd pansy.  You will need a sewing machine for most of this class.

Dogwood - A spray of dogwood blossoms tied with a colorful bow and streamers make this a wonderful addition to spring.  Block is 19" square set on a point with triangles and two borders.  This class teaches layered appliqué, stems, circles, and points.

Roses 'n Ivy - An open rose with ivy trailing around the 16½" block.  It is set on point with triangles and two borders.  This class teaches the basics of points, stems, and layered appliqué.

Morning Glory - A vine of two styles of Morning Glories with a hummingbird.  This class teaches the basics of points, stems, layered appliqué and circles.

Spring Bouquet - A jaunty spring bouquet featuring a Butterfly Magnet with a ruched center.  Other spring flowers, a bow and a butterfly complete this appliquéd square.  Great project to use fun fabrics and play with color.

Spring Basket - A basket of colorful flowers with a braided handle and some dimensional appliqué.  Basket sits on a table with doily as an accent.  A great way to use your grandmother's doilies.

Peacock Paradise - A colorful peacock sitting on a fountain makes this a fun project.  This class teaches basic layered appliqué, plus dimensional appliqué and embroidery.
